Asia Awaits End of US-China Standoff

TOKYO (AP) Japan urged Beijing and Washington on Monday to avoid allowing the collision of a Chinese warplane and a U.S. surveillance aircraft to strain their relations or jeopardize the peace and stability of the region.

(The "Free Press" is acting like the mouthy instigator on the playground trying to get two kids to fight!  "Asia Awaits End of US-China Standoff".  This is far from a "Standoff" and the "Free Press" knows it!  But that's not going to stop the "Free Press" from interviewing the average Wang on the street in Asia about it!  Let's read as see, shall we! - tha malcontent)

Across Asia, people awoke to front-page headlines on Monday about the collision in the South China Sea, which forced the U.S. plane to make an emergency landing on China's Hainan island on Sunday. The U.S. military has blamed Beijing for the accident. China said the surveillance plane was at fault.

Blah, blah, blah... Are any of you familiar with the phrase "mountain out of a mole hill"?  In 1994 a half a million human beings were slaughtered off the face of the Earth in Rwanda and William the Liar virtually ignored it with the blessing of the "Free Press"!  Now the slightest international event happens and we are suddenly teetering on the verge of a Third World War.  This is pathetic "Free Press"!  Are we going to get a dose of the "Taiwan Factor" before we're done here?! - tha malcontent)

``China blames U.S. for fighter crash,'' said a headline in the English-language South China Morning Post in Hong Kong on Monday.

``U.S. spy plane hits China jet,'' said the English-language tabloid Hong Kong iMail.

(Are you sure there isn't another Chinese Government RAG that you would like to quote "Free Press"? - tha malcontent)

Other stories in the Chinese territory showed concern about the state of relations between China and the Bush administration, which already had seemed to be taking a harder line toward Beijing than former President Clinton had during his eight years in office.

("relations between China and the Bush administration"... Well, well, well, here we have the true agenda of this fear-mongering piece of tripe on the part of the "Free Press"!  Of course, Bush "seems" to be taking a "harder line" than the President of the "Free Press", William the Liar did during his "eight-year" reign.  Perception is KING! - tha malcontent)

``Sino-U.S. relations: Adding frost to snow,'' said the front-page headline in the Chinese-language daily Ming Pao. The article characterized the incident as the most serious diplomatic friction ever between the United States and China.

(More propaganda from the Government controlled press in China.  If only the AP could figure out how to get America's press under the direct control of their side of the Government, the DemocRATS!  I can see it now, Secretary of the Ministry of Propaganda, Barbara Boxer (D). - tha malcontent)

Later in the day, about 100 people protested outside the U.S. Consulate in Hong Kong. They blamed the United States for the collision, accusing the American plane of improperly flying over Chinese territory, and saying officials in Washington were too cowardly to admit it.

(You mean to tell me that 100 out of 1,200,000,000 people were protesting?  My God, this is the end of days! - tha malcontent)

``I'm furious,'' said one of the demonstrators, Chan Chi-yan, a 70-year-old retiree. ``Chinese people cannot be insulted."

(Chinese people are insulted everyday Mr. Chi-yan, it's called Communism, and it's the oppressive form of Government that you are currently suffering under and it is an "insult" to the individual rights of humans everywhere! - tha malcontent)

In Taiwan, the collision was the lead story of hourly television newscasts Monday and it made front-page headlines in all the main newspapers, which ran large photos of EP-3 surveillance planes and maps of the plane's flight path.

(We get the point "Free Press", Chinese media is really covering this story, right, got it!! - tha malcontent

``American plane intercepted, Chinese communist fighter crashes into the South China Sea,'' a headline in the Mandarin-language United Daily News said.

(How many Government controlled news agencies are there in China?! - tha malcontent)

Taiwanese paid close attention to the event because it might influence a U.S. decision this month about selling weapons to this island. Taiwan says it needs advanced weapons to fend off a possible attack from China, which claims the island is a breakaway province.

(Ah, the "Taiwan Factor", like clockwork "Free Press", like clockwork! - tha malcontent)

Taiwanese Ministry of Defense official Kao Yang told lawmakers, ``If both sides take a hardline position on the issue, it might have a positive influence on our arms talks.''

Japan and South Korea were also monitoring developments closely.

(Think about it, how does the "Free Press" really KNOW any of this to be a fact?  I could say that Alabama was also monitoring developments closely, what does that really mean though? - tha malcontent)

The surveillance plane was based in Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan. For decades, 87,000 U.S. troops based in South Korea and Japan have provided the bulk of military security that these nations and Taiwan rely on against communist countries such as North Korea and China.

(The word "communist" in the pejorative?  This AP writer will be receiving a reprimand this morning!  "Comrade Wagner, report to your superior at once"! - tha malcontent)

In South Korea, one afternoon newspaper, the Munhwa Ilbo, predicted that China would use the accident to turn up its heat on Washington about the possible military sales to Taiwan.

As U.S. officials left Beijing on Monday to visit the island where the U.S. surveillance plane had landed, Japan's government quickly asked both sides to show caution.

(As opposed to "reckless disregard"? - tha malcontent)

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yasuo Fukuda said Japan hopes the United States and China will ``swiftly and smoothly'' resolve any differences over the accident.

(I'm sure some piece of Baby-boom spawn will shoot up another school again and we will quickly forget this ever happened Mr Fukuda! - tha malcontent)

``Good relations between the U.S. and China are extremely important for the peace and stability of the Asia-Pacific region,'' the top government spokesman said.

(Well look at the big brain on Yasuo!  He sure has a keen sense of the obvious doesn't he!  Maybe that's why he is the "top" mouthpiece for Japan!  Speaking of Japan, did anyone notice how we really aren't to upset about dropping one of their civilian ships with one of our subs in the Pacific a couple of weeks ago?  That's because 1941 wasn't that long ago!  You got something to say about that Japan?, I didn't think so! - tha malcontent)

In the streets of Hong Kong, pedestrians seemed less pessimistic about the outcome of the dispute over the collision.

(Don't worry, the commie propaganda just hasn't had time to soak in yet, the SHEEP will line up, they always do! - tha malcontent)

``I think it was just a mistake. There are lots of uncertainties between China and the U.S., and I don't think they want to do anything funny at the moment,'' said Angely Wong, a clerk.

``It's purely an accident,'' said Amak Ng, 35. ``I think they can solve this pretty soon..

(Shortly after, Mr. Ng was dragged off by Chinese soldiers and beaten for talking to the Imperialist American Propaganda Machine, sources close to Mr. Ng said under the condition that their names not be given, and then they were beaten too! - tha malcontent)
