Militants Kill 5 Police Officers in Iraq

By PATRICK QUINN (Direct descendent of Joseph Stalin! - tha malcontent)
Associated Press Writer Mar 19, 4:50 PM EST

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) Militants killed five police officers - including a police commissioner - on Saturday, the second anniversary of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, as the insurgency pressed on with its tactic of targeting Iraqi security forces, Shiites and Kurds and focusing less on American troops.

(ap) - It's no surprise that 5 Iraqi Police being killed is a lead story over 24 being killed by Terrorists in Pakistan.  It's about as surprising as the AP's continued use of the word "Insurgency" as opposed to Terrorism.  Let's take a look at the meanings of both words for Clarification... Insurgency - n : an organized rebellion aimed at overthrowing a constituted government through the use of subversion and armed conflict.  Terrorism - n. : The unlawful use or threatened use of force or violence by a person or an organized group against people or property with the intention of intimidating or coercing societies or governments, often for ideological or political reasons.  It's funny, out of the 26 million people who reside in Iraq, one can assume that not many of those 26 million are actively using Terrorism, or are "Insurgents", as the AP enjoys referring to them, but in the story regarding the 24 Killed in Pakistan, the AP has this view, "Most of the Muslims live together peacefully, but small groups of militants on both sides stage attacks."  Can you imagine the AP saying the same about Iraq?  Can you imagine the AP getting through a story on Iraq without taking shots at the Bush (43) Administration while propping up those who are Against our War?  Let's read together and see.  The next two paragraphs are the links that the AP provides regarding Iraq.  Read them, and tell me if they have a decidedly Negative tone. - tha malcontent)

(That's funny, I read all of those links, and not ONE of them has to do with the Successful 60% turnout FREE Elections that came as a Direct product of our removing Saddam... I wonder why the AP would choose to neglect that subject regarding Iraq, and instead opt for virtually all Negative stories?  Could it be their Parroting of the DemocRATS, "This was about WMD, not Liberation", is keeping them from being Honest enough to remember the name of this Liberation?... "Operation Iraqi Freedom" was it's name back before March 2003.  If you asked a Writer for the AP, they would probably say, "Operation Disarm Iraq"... And they would be wrong. - tha malcontent)

Newly elected Shiite and Kurdish leaders marked the March 19, 2003, start of the war with a fresh promise to form a government by the end of the month, when the National Assembly convenes for only the second time, nearly two months after lawmakers were elected.

("For only the second time", the AP snaps in Bitter Disdain for a War they never Supported, and have actively worked Against. - tha malcontent)

Around the world, tens of thousands of anti-war protesters marked the day with street demonstrations, with the largest turnout among residents of America's closest ally in the war - Britain, where 45,000 assembled in London's Hyde Park before marching to the U.S. Embassy.

(Is this story about the Weak Protests by the hard Left, or is about 5 Iraqi Police being killed by Terrorists?  Had "Free Press" outlets not provided free advertising for these Leftists leading up to the Protests, there would have be a fraction of the fraction that showed up!  Back in 2003, the "Free Press" talked about upcoming Protests ad nauseam, giving the Enemies of our Country all of the Aid and Comfort they could possibly want.  Can you imagine the "Free Press" doing that leading up to WWII? - tha malcontent)

In Waco, Texas, President Bush said "the Iraqi people are taking charge of their own destiny." He issued the order to invade Iraq, declaring Saddam Hussein a threat to the United States and the Middle East because he allegedly had weapons of mass destruction.

(Are those who were Killed by Saddam with WMD "allegedly" dead?  The UN Documented WMD that has yet to be accounted for AP.  Try being a little Honest about this subject! - tha malcontent)

Chemical, biological and nuclear weapons never were found, and the administration subsequently said the invasion was still worthwhile because it freed Iraq from Saddam's tyranny and provided a democratic model for the Middle East.

(You mean "Operation Iraqi Freedom" was still successful because Democracy has come to Iraq?... Shocking! - tha malcontent)

In his weekly radio address, Bush saluted the more than 1,500 troops who have died in the war.

(For Clarification, 1,100 have died in Combat, 400 in Accidents.  This is important to note, because the AP is attempting to create a Perception by only using the total of Deaths, that Combat is worse than it is by about 27%.  There was a time when the AP made the Distinction, but they realized that getting to markers such as 1,000, or 1,500, or 2,000 will be easier if they simply count the total dead, regardless of cause.  Maybe the AP can start counting those who die after returning to the States due to causes not related to Iraq at all.  That would sure pump up the numbers! - tha malcontent)

"I know that nothing can end the pain of the families who have lost loved ones in this struggle, but they can know that their sacrifice has added to America's security and the freedom of the world," he said. "Because of our actions, freedom is taking root in Iraq, and the American people are more secure."

(Freedom will take root in Iraq and Afghanistan, and then spread, as it already has to other areas such as Syria's Occupied Lebanon...  Hmmm, you think maybe this Idiot Cowboy from Texas may have seen something that the Elitist Left did not? - tha malcontent)

In violence Saturday, gunmen killed Ahmed Ali Kadim, a Baghdad regional police commissioner, as he traveled to his office in the Doura neighborhood. In the oil-rich northern city of Kirkuk, attackers killed a policeman, then bombed his funeral procession, killing three other officers, including the cousin of Jalal Talabani, the Kurdish leader pegged to become Iraq's next president.

A suicide attacker trying to kill U.S. troops in the insurgent stronghold of Ramadi, 70 miles west of Baghdad, prematurely detonated his car bomb, killing only himself, Iraqi police and the U.S military said.

(Do you get the feeling that the AP has some Sympathies to the Terrorists? - tha malcontent)

Despite the continuing attacks, the top U.S. general in Iraq, Army Gen. George Casey, said recently that the level of violence against U.S. troops had dropped significantly since the Jan. 30 elections. That appeared to be the result of a tactical shift by the insurgency, made up mostly of Sunni Arabs who were dominant under Saddam, to focus violence on majority Shiites and Kurds, two groups persecuted under the dictator's Baath Party rule.

(Where are the AP stories about the slowdown in Attacks Against our Troops?... The same place their Collective Conscience is, that's where!  In Algore's Iron-clad Lock-box! - tha malcontent

The Jordanian-born terrorist mastermind Abu Misab al-Zarqawi and his Al-Qaida in Iraq group have said they hope their relentless wave of bombings, kidnappings and beheadings will lead to a sectarian war.

(But I thought they were "Insurgents", AP?... Now I am confused.  I wonder if the Writer of this Article is going to be made aware of his mistake in referring to these "Insurgents" as "Terrorists"?  It could sound something like this, "Listen Patrick, if you are going to tow the Bush (43) line by calling these Insurgents "Terrorists" then you can just go apply for a job at FOXNews!" - tha malcontent)

Shiites make up about 60 percent of Iraq's 26 million people, while Sunni Arabs make up about 20 percent of the population. Kurds, who are Sunni but mostly secular, make up 15 to 20 percent.

(A question for the AP.... What did Saddam use Against the Kurds you are referring to?... That's correct, WMD.  The same WMD that you guys claim do not exist.  Very interesting. - tha malcontent)

Sunni Arabs mostly stayed away from the elections, either because they feared reprisals or because they chose to boycott them.

("Making the Elections illegitimate", the AP infers on a daily basis with their Abjectly Biased coverage of a War and a President they have never Supported since the night they led the charge in calling Florida for Algore, even before the Conservative panhandle of the State had finished casting it's ballots! - tha malcontent)

"The terrorists have one policy. They want to prevent the formation of a democratic government and want to draw the people of Iraq into a sectarian war," said Ali al-Faisal, a member of the Shiite clergy-backed United Iraqi Alliance.

(They are not "Terrorists", Ali, they are "Insurgents" who are looking to Liberate your Country from the Tyranny of Bush (43)... Haven't you been listening to the "Free Press" in the United States? - tha malcontent)

"In the past, they were targeting the American forces because they were in charge of security. After the new Iraqi army and police were established, and succeeded in maintaining security and began annihilating them, they shifted their attacks. But they will fail because there is a real intent to fight terrorism," al-Faisal said.

(And with the Failure of the Terrorists will come the Failure of the DemocRATS in America who have Predicted the exact Opposite, if not rooted for the Opposite since they realized how damaging it would be to them Politically for Bush (43) to be Successful. - tha malcontent)

The 275-member National Assembly, Iraq's first democratically elected legislature in recent memory, was first convened Wednesday.

Talabani and the Kurdish coalition agreed last week to form a government with Shiite politician Ibrahim al-Jaafari as prime minister.

An alliance official said differences now had been resolved over a timetable for returning control of Kirkuk to the Kurds once a government is formed, overcoming a major stumbling block. Saddam had conducted ethnic cleansing in the city and region, driving Kurds from their homes and replacing them with Arabs.

("Ethnic Cleansing" that made Slobo look like a Saint by comparison! - tha malcontent)

"In the next session of parliament, Talabani will be named president and he will officially ask Ibrahim al-Jaafari to form the new government," said Azad Jundiyan, a spokesman for Talabani's Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.

The Kurds and Shiites have repeatedly sought to reach out to the Sunni Arabs, in the hope that their inclusion will help deflate the insurgency, but a number of Sunni groups, including the influential Association of Muslim Scholars, met Saturday and again rejected any participation in the new power structure.

(Well, there you have the AP's take on Iraq... A consistently Negative outlook, regardless of the Facts.  I could paint Detroit in worse condition than Baghdad if I had the resources that the AP has...  Would it be Honest?... About as Honest as what the AP is doing regarding coverage of Iraq today.  By comparison, enjoy the bonus story for the day about Pakistan's "Insurgent", err, I mean "Terrorist" problem. - tha malcontent)
