Survey: Saddam Killed 61,000 in Baghdad

Associated Press Writer Dec 8, 8:15 PM EST

BAGHDAD, Iraq (
AP) Saddam Hussein's government may have executed 61,000 Baghdad residents, a number significantly higher than previously believed, according to a survey obtained Monday by The Associated Press.

(ap) - I don't know which is worse, the actual Genocide perpetrated by Saddam on his own people, or the inability of the AP, and the remainder of the "Free Press", to focus on it, as much as they are Algore Junior's endorsement of Howard Dole Dean (D) in the DemocRAT primary race.  This reminds me of when the "Free Press" and the DemocRATS ignored Rwanda back in 1994, in favor of "relative peace and prosperity", the Lie they continued for Clinton/Algore, until a far lesser "atrocity" occurred at the hands of a President that Clinton helped to become the first Democratically elected President in the former Soviet Republic of Yugoslavia, also known as Slobo.  Then, we found ourselves back on the road of "relative peace and prosperity"... Until that pesky Impeachment found the (p)resident, then it was time to "deal with Saddam, once and for all"... Or at least for 500 Cruise Missiles and the remainder of Impeachment!  Anyway, what is really sad about this story, is that it took the back burner to Algore/Dean, and then shortly after, it fell off of the Wire altogether.  When this is all sorted out, Saddam will have only been out done by Hitler in the previous 5 or 6 decades, not counting Stalin, of course!  Those who have stood by Saddam, and against this President, including the bulk of the far Left in this Country, will have blood on their hands for their actions... "You are either with us, or against us"!  Get it yet? - tha malcontent)

The bloodiest massacres of Saddam's 23-year presidency occurred in Iraq's Kurdish north and Shiite Muslim south, but the Gallup Baghdad Survey data indicates the brutality extended strongly into the capital as well.

(But Slobo was worse, right Mr. Clinton?  How was campaigning for Slobo, anyway? - tha malcontent)

The survey, which the polling firm planned to release on Tuesday, asked 1,178 Baghdad residents in August and September whether a member of their household had been executed by Saddam's regime. According to Gallup, 6.6 percent said yes.

(If the Bush (43) Administration said this same thing, the American Left would call them Liars... Wait a minute, they already do, my bad!  Stop for a minute, and think about the reality of this.  Can you imagine Gallup calling you and asking if the President of your Country had executed any member in your household?  We have it very good in our Country.  It's too bad that Ignorant BASTARDS on the Left would dare equate Bush (43) with Saddam... Disgusting!.., Get it yet? - tha malcontent)

The polling firm took metropolitan Baghdad's population - 6.39 million - and average household size - 6.9 people - to calculate that 61,000 people were executed during Saddam's rule. Past estimates were in the low tens of thousands. Most are believed to have been buried in mass graves.

(Damn, the AP seems to be missing it's noted emotion on this subject.  If this story were about a Black man who died at the hands of White officers, they would have an entirely different tone.  In this story, they refer to Human Lives as if they are simply just numbers in the 10's of thousands... Telling. - tha malcontent)

The U.S.-led occupation authority in Iraq has said that at least 300,000 people are buried in mass graves in Iraq. Human rights officials put the number closer to 500,000, and some Iraqi political parties estimate more than 1 million were executed.

(How many did Slobo bury again?  And how many years has it taken to get that small number, by comparison, up to a "respectable" mass grave number?  Even with the current numbers in Bosnia, it is still a hundredth of what Saddam has done to his own people, not to his enemies in War.  Do you Lefties understand the distinction?  Probably not, since you feel that a healthy fetus and a Cancerous Liver are equitable in regard to disposal. - tha malcontent)

Without exhumations of those graves, it is impossible to confirm a figure. Scientists told The Associated Press during a recent investigation that they have confirmed 41 mass graves on a list of suspected sites that currently includes 270 locations.

(As the Left trips all over itself to run in a say: "See, it's only 41 mass graves", not 270!"... Always quick to defend Saddam, while attacking our President, aren't you, you nasty little Marxists! - tha malcontent)

Forensic teams will begin to exhume four of those graves next month in search of evidence for a new tribunal, expected to be established this week, that will try members of the former regime for crimes against humanity and genocide. More graves will later be added to the list.

(Speaking of "Crimes Against Humanity", has Slobo been convicted, after all of these years?  Don't forget, even though we have ended the reign of a Murderous Tyrant, we still have not found Weapons of Mass Destruction, according to the definition supplied by the Angry, Bitter, and patently Dishonest Left!  Forget 270 Mass Graves... I am sure the occupants of these Graves did not believe they were victims of "Mass Destruction".  Memo to the Ignorant DemocRATS here, and abroad: The mission is called, "Operation Iraqi Freedom"... Do you get it yet? - tha malcontent)

But nobody expects all the mass graves to be exhumed, and nobody expects to ever know the full number of Iraqis executed by their government.

(A collective, Leftist, sigh of relief comes across the Land! - tha malcontent)

Richard Burkholder, who headed Gallup's Baghdad team, said the numbers in Baghdad could be high for two reasons: People may have understood "household" to be broader than just the people living at their address; and some families may have moved to the capital from other areas since the executions occurred.

(Am I the only one who is witnessing the AP downplaying this Genocide?  No, the "Free Press" does not have a Liberal bias, not at all! - tha malcontent)

"Anecdotal accounts start to support it, but they don't get you to 60,000," he said in a telephone interview from Princeton, N.J.

(The difference between the AP's coverage of this, and Bosnia, is so obvious, and so based in a Hatred and Distaste for REPUBLICans, even at the cost of the Truth about Genocide, that to deny it, is only to verify that you are one of them! - tha malcontent)

Even reducing the numbers slightly because of those possibilities, however, Burkholder said the number of executions the data suggest is higher than previously estimated, in the low tens of thousands.

(Gee, is there something you would like to just come out and say, AP? - tha malcontent)

The deadliest atrocity associated with Saddam's government was the scorched-earth campaign known as the "Anfal," in which the government killed an estimated 180,000 Kurds in Iraq's far north. Many were buried in mass graves far from home in the southern desert.

(180,000 in one "Anfal", and I am not sure that 20,000 can be verified in Bosnia... And this was during a War against an established, 700 year old enemy in the former Yugoslavia! - tha malcontent)

Another 60,000 people are believed to have been killed when Saddam violently suppressed rebellions by Shiite Muslims in the south and Kurds in the north at the close of the 1991 Gulf War.

("Suppression of Rebellions"?!?... Call it Genocide, as you did when Clinton side-stepped the UN to involve us in Bosnia, you Dishonest Bastards! - tha malcontent)

Sandra Hodgkinson, director of the U.S.-led occupation authority's human rights office, estimated that some 50,000 others were executed during Saddam's reign, including Kurds killed in chemical attacks and political prisoners sent to execution.

(Yeah, but where are the WMD's? - tha malcontent)

That 50,000 figure also would include prisoners killed in Baghdad.

(Oh, well, if that's the case, then I am no longer concerned. - tha malcontent)

The survey, which had a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points, was conducted in face-to-face interviews in Baghdad residents' homes from Aug. 28 and Sept. 4.

(So there has been a similar poll in some other time and place, that would help the pollsters to establish a margin of error? - tha malcontent)

The people were selected at random from all geographic sectors of the Baghdad metropolitan area, and more than nine in 10 agreed to participate. That's at least double the response rate for many U.S. telephone polls.

(Let's just get to digging up the evidence, so that the Truth will be known, and the AP can finally SHUT UP!  I have seen some twisting and contorting, in an attempt to deny the obvious, but this AP denial, and or skepticism, about the level of, or even IF it is, Genocide, on the part of Saddam, is something I have never before witnessed in the years I have covered these Marxists!... If they had any shame! - tha malcontent)

(And an apologist for Saddam, and Tyrants worldwide, as long as it is a REPUBLICan who is attempting to end said Tyrant's Genocide!  For the record, the AP ran this story for a very short time... So short, that I almost missed it.  Below, I have listed the Main Wire's stories, starting with the introduction of this story, and then 12 short hours later, when it was no longer available.  Make note, the AP finds Algore's endorsement of Howard Dole... I mean, Howard Dean, more important than Genocide.  As of now, the endorsement has been the top Wire story for almost 24 hours, while Genocide in Iraq was lucky to get the 3rd slot, under Algore/Dean 2004, and they were even luckier to get under 12 hours of Wire play.  The most current Wire, has the top headline as, "Gore Urges Dems to Unite Behind Dean"... Here are the 3 periods over the last 24 or so hours.  - tha malcontent)

1.) Gore to Endorse Howard Dean, Source Says

NEW YORK (AP) - Former Vice President Al Gore will endorse Howard Dean for the Democratic presidential nomination Tuesday, sources said, a dramatic move that could tighten Dean's grip on the front-runner's position and usher more support from wary party elite Gore, who won the popular vote but lost the electoral vote in the disputed 2000 election, has agreed to appear with Dean in New York City's Harlem neighborhood and then travel with the former Vermont governor to Iowa for a formal endorsement, several Democratic sources, including one close to Gore, said Monday.

1.) Gore Endorses Dean for Party Nomination
NEW YORK (AP) - Former Vice President Al Gore endorsed Howard Dean for the Democratic presidential nomination Tuesday, adding momentum and political prestige to Dean's front-running campaign. Gore said Dean "really is the only candidate who has been able to inspire at the grass-roots level all over the country." He said the former Vermont governor also was the only Democratic candidate who made the correct judgment about the Iraq war.

(Albert Algore Junior = "Momentum and political prestige"... Pathetic!  If the AP could remove it's collective head, from Junior's Anus, they might just realize how obvious their bias is! - tha malcontent)

1.) Gore Urges Dems to Rally Around Dean
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) - Al Gore endorsed Howard Dean's presidential bid Tuesday, praising the front-runner's fervent opposition to the Iraq war while urging Democrats to unite behind Dean five weeks before the first votes are cast. "We don't have the luxury of fighting among ourselves," said the Democratic presidential nominee in 2000, sending a chilling signal to Dean's eight rivals stunned by the former Vermont governor's political coup.

(If you do not get it yet, you probably never will... I may have to keep track of how long the AP keeps Algore/Dean 2004 at the very top of the main Wire!  Algore, according to the AP: "...sending a chilling signal to Dean's eight rivals stunned by the former Vermont governor's political coup."... Classic!  I knew I could count on the AP to make my job entertaining through the next election cycle! - tha malcontent)
